Jungle Cruise to air on December 30

Thanks to ejqHorseLady for the tip:

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in. From time to time our Programming Department will exercise the option to reserve an episode of a series for an airtime that they feel would be more appropriate for that particular episode. So, although YTV didn'€™t air episode 10 of Ghost in the Shell in sequence, we will be airing as part of an upcoming special b2b marathon.

Don'€™t miss the Ghost in the Shell b2b marathon on Friday night, December 30 starting at 12am E/P!

12am- episode 4 Interceptor

12:30am- episode 5 Decoy

1am- episode 6 Meme

1:30am- episode 10 Jungle Cruise

We hope you'™ll be tuning in!

Regards,

YTV Viewer Relations Department

Please remember all schedules are subject to change without notice.

I'€™m glad they came through for us in the end, and assuming that the episode airs without any edits, I'€™m incredibly thankful. Although this doesn'€™t bode well at all for 2nd GiG... I really hope some higher-ups at Corus can convince Teletoon to air it. Otherwise we can look forward to a disaster of Farscape proportions.

Also, there's a very interesting survey about anime music CDs on YTV'€™s website which I strongly recommend you check out. Could they be planning to release something?

YTV to air Princess Mononoke

According to YTV'€™s January highlights, anime will be infiltrating the Saturday night movies with Inuyasha: Affections Touching Across Time on January 28th at 9pm.

That is not interesting. This is:

On Sunday, January 29th, YTV is airing Princess Mononoke on ZAPX.

...

Holy shit.

FUNi needs your help

Lance Heiskell from FUNimation has been spreading this message across the vast regions of the net:

Quote:
As you recall, FUNimation was purchased by Navarre. Navarre Canada is handling home video distribution for us in Canada. Sales staff from FUNimation and Navarre recently visited key buyers from all the major retail chains in Canada and found that the buyers have become somewhat disillusioned about anime from inconsistent sales throughout several years.

As Canadian shoppers are aware, there is no dedicated Anime section in Best Buy/Futureshop. We want to prove to the Futureshop buyer that an anime section will work in Canada. (This also pertains to stores like: HMV, A&B Sound - you know the ones.)

Here is how you can help:

Email FUNimation at (canada@funimation.com) describing how you purchase anime in Canada. Do you have a difficult time finding anime at retail? Do you purchase at retail stores (and if so which ones) or are forced to purchase online? Do you have to order from a US store instead? These are things that will help us make the case for Canadian retailers. The retail buyers really want to know if there is a dedicated consumer base.

This information will not only benefit FUNimation but all the other anime distributors in general. We just want to make sure this gets handled right.

Thanks for your time on this.

FUNimation Guy

Of course, this is a question that they should've been asking about five years ago, but at least they'€™re attempting to address the problem. It would be nice if they could get their distribution up to Manga/Anchor Bay standards (and with Navarre Canada on their side, I see no reason why they can'™t), but I still think the key is pushing their properties on TV. I'™m not convince that they'€™ve tried half as hard to get FMA on Teletoon as they do to get any of their properties on CN in the States.

The final word

YTV'€™s response to "Jungle Cruise"€ not airing this past weekend:

Quote:
Episode 10 of Ghost in the Shell doesn'™t have an airdate scheduled on YTV. Our Programming Department just didn'€™t think the graphic content was appropriate for our network, regardless of the show'€™s airtime.

Info in "Brand New Planet"?

On a slightly less dreary note - it'€™s come to my attention that a recent issue of the Toronto Star youth publication "œBrand New Planet"€ may have contained some interesting info about Gundam SEED Destiny. If anyone from the Toronto area can gain access to the November 4th issue through their school or other means and outline what exactly was said, it would be much appreciated.

General outrage

No offense to anyone featured here, of course. You're all horribly out of character anyway. This was also going to be a bit longer, but in the end I decided to cut you dial-up users a little slack.

Anyway, as I'€™ve implied, if the episode doesn'€™t air uncut next week, the best we can probably hope for is that YTV doesn't make another licensing decision like this ever again. Like I said five months ago, "€œwhat were they thinking?"€ Unsurprisingly, this scenario is basically the first thing that popped in my head when YTV first announced that they had this show.

I should also take this time to point out that the second season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex will be airing with a TV-MA rating on Cartoon Network in the US.

Insert predictable "Clone Jutsuu" joke

Just a quick reminder to all of you that YTV will be airing two episodes of Naruto tomorrow night, likely to catch up with the US broadcast, from 9:30pm-10:00pm. Also, starting on November 11th, Naruto will finally get an encore broadcast at 2:00am, replacing the .hack encore which now airs on Mondays.

.hack//SIGN reruns will, as far as I can tell, persist throughout November. If that doesn't sit right with you, just flip on over to Teletoon where you can watch the return of Clone High every Friday night at 10:30pm!

Turner Classic Movies now available in Canada

Here's some news that completely caught me off guard: starting today, Shaw Communications and StarChoice customers can access Turner Classic Movies.

Since the programming is uncut and commercial free to begin with, it'€™s unlikely that a separate Canadian service has been set up to allow Canadian advertising. This should be the exact same version of the station available in the US, meaning that Canadians will be able to watch their upcoming broadcasts of the Studio Ghibli films. Here'€™s the schedule, in case you haven'™t seen it yet:

January 5
Spirited Away -€“ 8pm (1am encore)
Princess Mononoke -€“ 10:15pm (3:15 am encore)

January 12
Nausicaa -€“ 8pm. (12:15am encore)
Castle in the Sky -€“ 10pm (2:15am encore)

January 19
My Neighbor Totoro -€“ 8pm (1:15am encore)
Porco Rosso - 9:30pm (2:45am encore)
Whisper of the Heart -€“ 11:15 pm (4:30 am encore)

January 26
Only Yesterday (subbed) -“ 8 pm (12:30 am encore)
Pom Poko - 10:15 pm (2:45 am encore)

Since I don'€™t see it on my own dial, I'€™m assuming that this station is digital only and isn't available to analogue television customers like it is in the US.

Edit: According to Channel Canada, the service will be launching on November 1, 2, or 3 depending on your area, in both analogue and digital cable packages.
