Final week of Ghibli films
Submitted on January 25th, 2006. News and UpdatesBe sure to catch the last round of Ghibli films tonight as Turner Classic Movies brings us two works from Isao Takahata, one of which will be subbed only and apparently isn't going to be released on DVD:
8:00pm EST/ 5:00pm PST- Only Yesterday (subtitled)
10:15pm EST/ 7:15pm PST- Pom Poko
12:30am EST/ 9:30pm PST- Only Yesterday (subtitled)
2:45am EST/ 11:45pm PST- Pom Poko (subtitled)
I would recommend taping Only Yesterday. Or at the very least, voting for it to be released on home video from this page.
New JLU on YTV in February
Submitted on January 21st, 2006. News and UpdatesWe may not get them first (the UK beat us this time around, it seems), but we won't be getting them last according to YTV:
We're happy to tell you that Episodes #27 - #39 of Justice League Unlimited arrive in February! Episode #27 will air Wednesday, February 1 at 7pm (E/P) and repeat the following Saturday.
Nice to see the premieres in prime time. If only Avatar got that kind of presentation.

Random controversial statement
Submitted on January 15th, 2006. News and UpdatesSince nobody else is ever going to pick it up, I'm going to concede and say... YTV should probably air Cowboy Bebop when Ghost in the Shell is done.
There, I said it.
Ghibli reminder
Submitted on January 12th, 2006. News and UpdatesJust a quick reminder that Nausicaä and Laputa will be airing tonight on TCM Canada at the following times:
8:00pm EST/ 5:00pm PST- Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind
10:00pm EST/ 7:00pm PST- Laputa: Castle in the Sky
12:15am EST/ 9:15pm PST- Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind (subtitled)
2:15am EST/ 11:15pm PST- Laputa: Castle in the Sky (subtitled)
Repeat this, reschedule that...
Submitted on January 8th, 2006. News and UpdatesI received confirmation yesterday that Princess Mononoke will not be playing on Sunday January 29th at 6:00pm. Instead, it will replace the first Inuyasha movie on Saturday, January 28th at 9:00pm.
Although it basically does ensure that the movie won't be censored, it is a bit disappointing that a high profile network debut like this will now get virtually no promotion, as seems to be the norm with Saturday night movies. I hope YTV will make an exception here, and realize that this showing will appeal to far more than just a few anime fans in the know. And yes, the movie will be pan 'n scan [cropped full screen] only.
And as a number of you noted, YTV accidentally skipped an episode of Inuyasha this past Friday. Don't fear, because episode 122, "Intense Banryuu: Death Match inside Mt. Hakurei" will be airing this Friday at 9:00pm. Also of note: we're now only four episodes behind the US in terms of IY episodes. Hopefully they'll have a few more hiatuses so we can catch up before the series concludes.
New year, new look
Submitted on January 5th, 2006. News and UpdatesIf you're reading this right now, it means that more likely than not, the conversion over to the site's new "version 3" look has been accepted by whatever kind of computer you're using. The poll isn't functioning at the moment, and there are a few technical errors with the header that may be encountered by all none of you who increase text size, but while Sam (who has done an outstanding job here) will still be working out a few problems, the layout should otherwise look perfect and consistent in every browser. If you're experiencing any technical problems with the new design, please point them out in [url=http://zannen.ca/node/#comment- thread[/url] so that they can be addressed.
What you're seeing should've happened about a month ago. Unfortunately, as you've probably observed, the server's been disagreeing with us quite a bit lately and was probably the main thing setting us back. The hopes of upgrading to a new server is the main reason you're now seeing larger ads at the top of the page. If you don't like it, too bad, because they're only going to get bigger.
Most of the pages haven't been converted to the new design yet, but I'll try my best to have everything back up by tomorrow night. The three main pages of focus are up and have been completely revised. I merged the YTV and Bionix pages together since The Copasetic Depository didn't pan out quite like I had hoped it would; I was planning to make something for Bionix like The X-Bridge is to Toonami, but laziness and my growing apathy for the subject soon got in the way. I updated the spliced info and tried to keep it as brief as possible, but ultimately had to divide them into subsections to make them easier to read. But pretty much every subject there is to cover is touched upon in the new version.
The Teletoon page has been almost completely rewritten and integrated with information about the CRTC. It's not exactly a resurrection of the old CRTC page from back when the site was first launched since my views on the subject have changed so much then, but you can look at it that way if you want. SPACE page is mostly the same, but I just tacked on some info about Razer TV. The other odds-and-ends will be combined in the Others page which I will make a valiant effort to have up by Sunday. I hope that anyone from those companies who happen to read this site will take the time to check the new pages out!
I was tempted to axe the comments, due to a lot of pointless bickering that's been going on on the front page as of late, but decided to keep them since letting you guys express your opinions is really the whole point of this site. Sam also revamped comments layout, and now it even supports Gravatars! So get one if you don't already have one!
I hope you all enjoy! Let's hope 2006 is a good year! Also, by total coincidence, this is the 100th newspost made to this site since switching to the Textpattern system. I think that includes some test stuff as well, but whatever. A nice round number is a nice round number.
No Studio Ghibli on TCM Canada
Submitted on January 3rd, 2006. News and UpdatesAccording to the schedule listings on the Turner Classic Movies website, TCM Canada will not be airing the Studio Ghibli films through January.
EDIT: Seems that there's been a change. While Mononoke and Spirited Away won't be running on the 5th, the other Ghibli films will be airing on the 12th, 19th, and 26th.
