Of course, that's their opinion...whether they're right or wrong, what matters most is they're being honest about it.

Now, getting to the reason(s) why the ending didn't come close to being that damn good (according to others on other forums)...is that either:

A. They think that this series is going to be good all the way through (which it is), and they're expecting an exciting climatic ending with a bloodshed involved or someway like it.

or B. They've mistakenly lack the basic knowledge of a certain famous play or an old, classic story which loosely resembles to the ending of Basilisk, and some parts throughout the series.

Of course, these reasons are likely my own state of opinion, and I could be wrong too. However, I think it's clearly to say that the ending was pretty good and had an interesting twist on the side. It's just the fact that they somewhat had an understanding on what was going on this series, and if some actually understands it from other sources, then they probably had a clear idea on what the story is about and (maybe) know how the story will end.

You'll soon figure it out what I'm trying to say; and that's my opinion...more like a basic observation, perhaps.

I've never quite understood where that stereotype came from. I havn't seen MANY Gonzo titles, but the ones I've seen range from watchable, cheap entertainment (Trinity Blood) to masterpieces (Gankutsuou). The only Gonzo title that I've seen that I really didn't like was Black Cat. But what really confuses me is that Basilisk was written off by fans and fansubbers alike as generic Gonzo crap, while Trinity Blood, which was heavilly hyped, was very mediocore.

That's certainly not was I was hoping would happen, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I kind of figured both would die somehow, due to the foreshadowing in the pre-OP intro with the hawk and snake killing eachother, but I liked how it was done.

I have to say, I'm quite impressed with Basilisk overall. I was expecting some generic Gonzo action/shonen crap, but I really got into it.

I've heard from random anime message boards that the ending was pretty crappy. Well, I personally think that the ending wasn't THAT bad. Sure, there wasn't much going on throughout the episode and the ending wasn't really all the satisfying, but it could've been worse, right? =\

Personally, I was hoping that Gennosuke and Oboro would run away and hide away from the world so that nobody would interfere with their love, but that surely wasn't the case. :( What did you poeple think about the ending?

Episode 23 - Emancipation

Tenzen (really) DIES?! :shock: It's about freaking time. Kagero also bites the dust, but I thought that Oboro's power only nullified the ninja ability, and not kill the person as well. Unless Kagero somehow inhaled her own poison breath, but otherwise, I don't understand. =S

This might also seem like a really stupid question, but did Tenzen really have intercourse with Kagero? I know it does look like it, but there was the Jingoro/Okoi case that kind of seemed like it at one point, and I want to make sure as well.

The scene were Tenzen opens Kagero´s Kimono is uncut.
The scene were Tenzen opens Oboro´s Kimono was edited.
The 2 scenes are almost identical.

It's only old once the series has ended, so we'll keep guessing to the very end. Then, once it has finished, we'll say, "Oh well, maybe it just a coincidence or something" and then just move on...that's what I would think.
