My guess is that many networks/local affiliates show sports programming in the afternoon which often pre-empts the later hours of SatAM, at least on the West coast. I'd say they're just trying to lessen the impact of shows being pre-empted/re-scheduled.

...Though it does kind of remind you of Kids' WB's disasterous "Big Kids Go First" campaign, which essentially single-handedly cancelled Freakazoid!

Di-Gata had a short livewd

Di-Gata had a short livewd run on 4KidsTV in the past. And a lot of 4Kids new shows for the CW come in mid-season.

FOX is premiering much of

FOX is premiering much of it's new lineup this week so it's likely that Saturday will be a good reflection of what's on for a while. CW seems to be airing it's new shows on the 13th. But it doesn't appear to be much better. The original Chaotic will be repeating from 11am-12pm (unless they plan on putting another show it that slot). More of the "change the network and pretend it's new" approach they're doing with other shows.

CW appears to have TMNT Back to the Sewer and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D, as well as what are likely to be new episodes of it's existing shows like Spiderman. But there's no telling how many of those will be repeats. No sign of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, so they will either not air it or more likely, wait until 5D is ready to repeat since there's only 24 episodes in the last season of GX.

Di-Gata will be new to the Americans but it's been running on Teletoon already, so for Canadians it's likely to be repeat programming.

Both CW and FOX have repeats for the 11-12 block, which is usually when the best stuff is aired and one would think would be when the ratings are the strongest. Could they be trying to cut an hour out of SatAM?

It's not a good situation when one company is programming two networks. There's so many repeats on it's hard to tell if the new season is starting. And based on last year, it will probably be only five or six weeks before we see repeats of the new shows.

Yeah it is the new Biker

Yeah it is the new Biker Mice series. The FOX block is pretty much repeat central this year with pretty much only Choatic Season Two (which thank Zod doesn't look like it's animated in Flash anymore), Biker Mice, and Di-Gata Defenders in terms of new programming. Pretty much all premieres for stuff like TMNT, and even Viva Pinata have jumped ships.

Hopefully they aren't going to go back to the beginning and run them as "All New" episodes like they're doing with Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.

I noticed that Biker Mice From Mars (probably the new series) will be airing at 8:30am next Saturday on FOX.

Moonlight Mile, Flag, and Freedom are short; especially Freedom. I have doubts about SPACE picking up a series that runs 13 episodes or less. And OAVs don't tend to work very well on TV. Yes, they air the occasional miniseries; but I think they should focus on shows that run a bit longer.

SPACE has run a lot of short series, usually during the summer. And Moonlight Mile is suppose to have a sequel, which would make it about 26 episodes. But usually when SPACE runs anime they do it about a decade after the show or movie has been out. They would be ideal for anime because they don't edit it but they're not likely to air it unless they can get it cheap. They're spending enough on the bigger name shows. And since they've got enough to fill their prime-time lineup there isn't a lot of room for anime.

Just use their encyclopedia.

Some of the properties you mentioned haven't been aired on TV at all, but that's not the point. You also need to consider that it will likely be more difficult to air any Geneon or ADV property now, if it hasn't been picked up by Funimation.

For the ones that have been picked up, there will likely be a delay before Funimation is actively distributing them again.

YTV did not butcher GitS: SAC. They never should have aired it in the first place because it's not targeted at teens, it's targeted at adults. It would be a mistake for them to air season 2 on anything but TAC.

I would really like to see them pursue Blood+, that would certainly appeal to people who aren't necessarily fans of anime.

Dayspring: Who said they wanted YTV to air 17+ content? I think the consensus here has been that the 13-17 demographic is starting to be ignored.

Of course YTV is primarily a youth station; but if their target goes up to 17, then they should air a few shows for teens in addition to the plethora of shows geared to younger viewers.

I don't think anyone is asking for YTV to be a teen station. But it's not unreasonable to ask that a couple hours or so a week actually target the 13-17 demographic.

I completely disagree about the shounen angle. YTV focuses far too much on young boys and has been ignoring the female demographic for years. Despite the fact that one of their biggest hits was Sailor Moon, a shoujo series. I want to see them air at least one teen girl show in a short block for teens. Girls should be given an alternative to the wealth of terrible television out there that only promotes a plastic image that encourages low self-esteem.

The attitude that entertainment should just focus on boys really irritates me. If anything, it's more important for girls to be given entertainment that is an alternative to the stereotypical crap.

O.o

Blue Dragon is a shonen anime made by Toriyama. Bionix is an action anime lineup on a kids network, not 17+ lineup like you guys are insinuating. In other words, Bionix is and SHOULD be a shonen lineup. Sounds like a perfect match to me.

You guys are angry about the wrong thing: you want a late-night lineup (aimed at teens and older), not the old Bionix. Let's stop glorifying how the old Bionix was. It was divided into two, so they merely claimed a bunch of random shows were part of the lineup. Remember that an hour of Beast Wars+Shadow Raiders, followed by tween-aimed Cancon was part of the lineup. In short, 2 of the 5 hours were crap, and another hour that was good (JLU, ZIM, Futurama) weren't the advertised anime.

Oh you're so wrong. Blue Dragon's only ties to Akira Toriyama is that he drew the designs, he didn't pen the story, as well, the problem with Blue Dragon, is that it has been another victim of Viz's editing and localization team. While I admit, I don't care about some kid flashing people, I'd like to hear some of the original music, and for some reason, these localized dubs are never really good in the acting quality, I'm not sure as to why. Not to mention this anime was only made to sell the Xbox 360 video game in Japan, just like a certain show about Monsters that fit in your pocket, and as such it's aimed at young children, not the same people who were watching Gundam SEED.

And if you're calling Shadow Raiders and Beasties/Beast Wars crap, then man, I don't know what to say to you.

Ah, wasn't aware of the uber-editing. But like you said, it's aimed at young children, and therefore deserving a stay on Bionix since Bionix is only claiming to be an "all-new anime" block, something that SEED isn't anymore. Though I wish they dumped repeat shows like SEED right after Bionix would end. :(

As for Beasties, etc, I meant that they was never "anime" to begin with and shouldn't have been part of the Bionix lineup simply because they interrupted it. It would have made more sense to bump up the rest of the lineup to earlier showtimes than to claim that non-anime made up part of the lineup. :P

For this schedule I have nothing to say but, blame the Americans, more specifically Cartoon Network. It's more then a coincedence that Toonami and the Anime portion of [AdultSwim] got shafted to Saturdays, and low and behold, YTV shafts Bionix to Saturdays.

I don't know why YTV would do that, since CN and YTV are two different networks. You would think YTV wouldn't be concerned how a network in another country is operating and scheduling things.

Dayspring, nobody's

Dayspring, nobody's complaining because Blue Dragon is a shounen series. They're complaining because, in addition to its immaturity, it's one of the most heavily edited and localized anime properties to come out in the past few years. Hell, they even go through the trouble of completely digitally removing the breasts of one main character. And I don't mean painting over a little bit of cleavage - both funbags have been vanquished from existence in every frame. Most 4Kids properties didn't go through editing as extensive as that seen in Blue Dragon. Viz has stated at least a couple of times in press releases that it was specifically designed for a TV-Y7/Saturday morning timeslot, which is when it did air on Cartoon Network.

The entire point of Bionix being established years ago was to create a place for anime that isn't heavily localized. Blue Dragon is the complete opposite kind of series that should be airing on the block. What I want to know is why they don't just switch the timeslots for Blue Dragon and the new X-Men show; judging by the trailer, that one would be a far more appropriate addition to the block.

As we all expected the Great Inversion has been confirmed: Big Fun Fridays are here to stay, which we can only assume means Bionix has been left to be plucked at by seagulls on the boundless wasteland of Saturday nights. Blue Dragon and Dinosaur King are the only confirmed anime acquisitions so far, so you'd all better start praying to whatever god you can that neither one of those air even in close proximity to Bionix. If you don't believe in any gods, this might be a good time to make one up.

On what I assume to be a related note, Wolverine and the X-Men will be airing on Saturday nights at 7pm. This is interesting not only because it suggests that YTV is, in my opinion, rather unwisely following Cartoon Network's procedure of airing all of the actions shows on Saturday nights (making it the "right thing to do"), but also because it's not airing on NickToons in the US until early 2009. So this means we'll get to enjoy Zordon-Xavier at least four months before our American friends.

I wish I could say that was the worst development, but it really isn't. Sundays are now officially being branded as "Nickelodeon Sundays". Yes folks, you heard that right. The days of YTV being able to successfully take American programming and flawlessly incorporate it into their own brand are over. I expect that the coming generations will only be encouraged to hold American brands in higher regards than ever. Since kids will now be getting the impression that they're only getting a taste of "the good stuff", YTV's branding is almost forcing itself into an inferiority complex. Great. Also, rest assured that Invader Zim won't be airing on that block. Although as with pretty much any anime series targeted at people over fourteen, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise if it doesn't return at all this September.
