Galaxy Railways

I was just at Funimation's site to check up on some anime I saw at HMV that I might be willing to purchase and I came across their "TV" link and apparently YTV has Galaxy Railways? Was this mentioned before?

I've come to the conclusion that listing Galaxy Railways on that site was a mistake. The site hasn't been updated in forever, and YTV has never aired that series, or have included media stating they would. The most damning thing for that is on that same site. It mentions ColorsTV as a Canadian broadcaster of the FUNimation Channel, one thing though, ColorsTV isn't available in Canada.

It's likely a case of something they "left their options open" to air but hadn't really decided to air it. So if the show was to air in Canada, YTV would be the station it would air on. But at this point they don't even have a place to air it.

Maybe they got it around they same time they got other Funimation titles, like Case Closed and FMA.

So if that's any indication of how long the license was supposed to last, chances are it's expired by now.

Most licenses seem to last about five years--which would explain the reason for YTV shutting down Bionix-on-Demand. (Licenses ran out.) Shows can also be licensed according to the number of airings, like five. If they go beyond that set number they have to pay additional fees. Naruto and Bleach were likely re-licensed for later seasons, so it could be a couple years before they use up the rights for those.

As such we could get a couple more years of reruns of the later seasons until the rights are used up, but no new episodes. If a show like Naruto aired an episode once a week twice, and ran repeats throughout the season, then it wouldn't be hard for them to use up airing. Although I don't think YTV would want to draw out Naruto and Bleach repeats past the fall. These repeats could very well be the last airings of those shows on YTV.

I think the only anime YTV is really bothering to license now is Pokemon, although in that case the license on earlier seasons has likely expired so they're only airing episodes from later seasons.
