Death Note removed from YTV's schedule

Death Note, originally scheduled at 10pm and 1:30am this coming Friday, has been removed from YTV's online schedule. Instead, an episode of Inuyasha will run at 10pm, and an encore airing of Eureka seveN will air at 1:30am. The website also indicates that these series' will both be running at the same times next week as well. No further information is currently available.

O_O

Hmmm, I wonder what happened to cause such a change...

This is very strange - and I'm putting this mildly.

I suppose this is some kind of issue with ViZ Media. Don't quote me on this. Perhaps they didn't have enough episodes dubbed(ViZ said at the Panel that they only had 11 episodes dubbed, right?). 11 episodes would seem too short a season for YTV I suppose.

Taking a shot in the dark, Death Note's sudden removal from YTV's schedule might have been caused by another factor, like content misgivings. Perhaps YTV felt it was a little too dark for their tastes(yeah, I know, it sounds illogical). God only knows. If there is any consolation - we do have an Eureka seveN encore once more on Fridays.

They actually fixed the schedule with the reruns for Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist and Inuyasha, if anyone hasn't noticed. The correct episodes are actually going to air tonight(at least for FMA and Naruto, whose first episodes are going to air tonight).

IY is still airing the later episoddes. albeit now they're starting at EP105(The Ghastly Steel Machine). Also on the IY front, they're going to keep on going with the order of the episodes that air at 10PM on Monday to Thursday for that 10PM Friday slot. I haven't gotten a response from them yet regarding the earlier episodes(I doubt I will). I've come to the theory that they have only about 73-75 of the 167 episodes(EP53-63, the onees they aired during the Summer, and EP105-EP167).

You'd think that at 10:30PM Fridays they'd take out that FMA rerun, seeing as they're airing it on Monday-Thursday. Or at least carry on with the order of the episodes that air on Monday-Thursday. Personally I'd have preferred reruns for Gundam SEED at 10:30PM - especially since they were midway through(the second clip show, specifcally EP26) before they dropped it on Fridays.

Yeah, it's funny how MOMENT was the last episode of SEED to air on YTV for the forseeable future.

My guess is that Viz is late in delivering the tapes. Keep in mind that despite the fact that the show was clearly listed on the original fall schedule and was retroactively added to YTV's fall press release, the station has yet to give any indication that they've received any visual materials for Death Note. No web promos or commercials have been seen, and the series hasn't even been given a microsite, suggesting that YTV hasn't received so much as a media package for the series. The TV schedule listings not only lacked an episode title, but were also mistakenly designated as "children's" (the only Bionix anime to do so), suggesting that the listing was kind of thrown together as a placeholder.

At the very least, YTV owes us some kind of public explanation for the last minute change, and people shouldn't hesitate to seek one. But for now, we can party a little longer on Friday night, catch the E7 repeat, and still be in bed by 2.

I'm still going to see on Friday what's airing at 10. Although, I feel like it will not be Death Note. Sad though, considering Bionix will be full of shows that have already seen the light of day on Canadian TV.

I got an e-mail from YTV's Media Coordinator. Apparently Death Note is, as their classic ambiguous phrasing goes, "not currently confirmed for broadcast", and a correction is being e-mailed out tomorrow.

Ugh.

It's disappointing that the only completely new show YTV was going to air won't be. However, most of the new fall shows won't be airing until at least the end of September. It's a late season this year. So we could see a few weeks of repeats and then new shows airing.

Enhh...I just think the Y pulled the trigger too early. Storm Hawks isn't premiering until "Crunch" airs it on Saturday and Bionix gets the repeat ep. and Shadow Raiders is in it's place this Friday. and besides.. I heard from Brad Swaile that they did dub 12 episodes thus far. So I think it was a premature announcement.

A bit disappointing but I think Viz and YTV jumped the gun on this one a bit.. I think we will see in evenually once they get a few more eps dubbed.

Ah, poop. I was kind of looking forward to Death Note after all the hype you guys have given it.

Well, especially now that 10PM is going to be occupied by InuYasha episodes in line with the Mon-Thu airings, I'll say it again: YTV should move the Fullmetal Alchemist reruns to 11PM and have them fall in line with the weeknight run.

(Though I guess moving Eureka 7 to 10:30 at the last minute wouldn't be a good idea...)

Ah Crap! Another scheduling problem with YTV, great. Hopefully this does not mean that it won't air because of content and that they probably just won't start airing it until a latter date when they get the tapes.

Should have seen this coming as their have been no commercials promoting it on YTV.

Wow looks like I'm gonna go another year without watching YTV then. :/

Well I don't wanna make it sound like it's YTV's fault so naah. But it usually always is, they don't have a good rep. D:

Stores like HMV are desperate these days, trying to figure out what to sell. Not all that long ago, all HMV stocked was audiocassettes and CDs, after all.

But that said, why on earth would you buy anime there? Prices and selection are a lot better at other places, including Amazon.

Some people don't have credit cards which makes buying from Amazon impossible. And some prefer to buy in person.

HMV has had one of the best anime selections of any store, so for them to drop it makes it harder to get some of the non-kiddie titles.

I dunno about Oshawa, but I'm sure Brampton has other, better brick-and-mortar options; and if not there, certainly Mississauga.

You could buy chapters gift certificates in store and then use them online. I know a couple of people that do this and it works pretty well for them. They also offer re-loadable ones that you can put balances on. Check the link:

Damn. This is just great.

Of course this could have been like Logos said, then they could've delayed it properly, & gave evryone a sure-fire reference why they removed it, but no, that didn't happen.

Time to get ready for doom and gloom. According to YTV's website, all encores on the schedule will continue as usual on October 19th, meaning that the chances of Death Note debuting that night are next to nothing.
