Spirited Away to air on CBC on Sunday
Looks like the CBC is finally making good use of their ties to Disney. According to TV listings, they will be airing the Academy Award-winning Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away on Sunday, September 30th at 5:00pm EST/PST. Because Turner Classic Movie's previous airings of the films did not include it on the Canadian feed, this will actually be the Canadian broadcast premiere for Spirited Away.
Spread the word, since it doesn't look like CBC will be running any promos for the movie. Let's hope the ratings are good enough for them to bring in the other Studio Ghibli films! Thanks to Kefka_Pallazo for pointing this out.
EDIT: I encourage you not only to tell as many people you can about this airing, but also to contact CBC's viewer relations either through phone or e-mail to express your interest in the movie. Also suggest the possibility of airing other films from Studio Ghibli!

I remember some time ago(Maybe years ago), someone, I think Jesse, said that one day the CBC is going to run out of Disney Originals and have to air Ghilibi. Well, since I haven't seen Spirited Away, I'll watch it.

French CBC has quite a history of airing anime, and still shows Captain Harlock now and again. But the English CBC did show Astro Boy and a lot of the World Masterpiece Theatre specials. But that was back in the day, mind you. I'm pretty sure they haven't aired any anime at all in the contemporary market.
Are you guys sure they've done Mononoke? Is there any record of this? I'm pretty sure they haven't.

That may have been only on local market CBC affiliates. In Ontario, Astro Boy was always on Global (the 80s series, unless you're talking about the 60s series??). Though it was definitely shown in French on SRC.

I seem to remember them airing AstroBoy on CBC in the eighties. Does anyone remember what channel they where airing Robotech on? It has to be CBC or CTV cause back then I am pretty sure those where the only channels that my parents had.

I know YTV aired it. I was talking about CBC.
Oh, speaking of which, did YTV air it twice last time? I know it was supposed to air on the Saturday at 7pm, but I never knew about Friday at midnight.

What a coincidence I passed by this post, the previous Friday from this past weekend, at midnight the popular kids network YTV ended its anime friday night programming called Bionix with this very movie. It was a splendid movie, with near flawless animation and the action was fantastic, the way heads would fall off after being hit by an arrow was hilarious and yet cool.

2007/08/17---YTV's Friday night line-up + ReBoot Reborn
Tonight YTV will be airing a Naruto marathon from 7:00pm-9:30pm. Following the Naruto-mania, YTV will air the fourth Inuyasha movie, Fire on the Mystic Island, at 9:30pm, and Princess Mononoke at midnight. ;3
ReBoot Reborn: I know it isn't anime news, but I know many fans of this site are also fans of the old CGI series ReBoot. For those of you out of the loop, ReBoot is being relaunched by Rainmaker Entertainment. They've come up with five concepts for a new series, which they posted on their website. Fans are encouraged to view the concepts and vote for the one they'd like to see produced. You can find the ReBoot Reborn website here and the concepts here. :3

Yes. That's why I didn't watch it on Saturday; I already saw it the night before.
Anyone else tune into CBC to support Spirited Away only to see this heavily edited version? How disappointing... almost 30 minutes of film cut out.

They kept the violent scenes, such as the really bloody scene with Dragon Haku intact, but cut out entire scenes (and those referring to them) out completely in order to fit into their tiny time slot.

Not to mention they removed the last three minutes of the movie. OUCH.
Do they even realize that Ghibli could slap them with a lawsuit for this?

Can't say I'd disagree with Ghibli if they did make such a decision, should this reach them. CBC's playing of Spirited Away was a horrible disrespect to the movie, its creators and its fans, not to mention all the new viewers on TV who were given such a shoddy version with no knowledge to the fact. Something like that shouldn't be allowed for any movie.

Well, hopefully when I call their viewer relations about this tomorrow, I won't be the first person they've heard from about this.
Seriously, after this, they owe us every Ghibli movie uncut.

It was done to fit in extra (coughTOO MANY) commercials, a practice CBC has been doing way too much lately. They shouldn't have played Million Dollar Baby on right after it if they wanted both movies to have short timeslots.
I'm surprised that out of all the scenes left in, they left each and every one of the puke scenes in (No-Face Puking up everything and everywhere, Dragon-Haku puking blood, etc). Not that I'm anti-vomit, but the movie WAS shown during dinner time. If you're going to remove scenes... :P
