G4TechTV Canada to air Black Lagoon and Requiem from the Darkness

In what I imagine will be two of the last titles to appear out of their Geneon exclusivity deal, television listings have confirmed that G4TechTV will be debuting Requiem from the Darkness on Saturday October 20 at 8:00pm and 12:00am EST, and the much-awaited (and very awesomely dubbed!) Black Lagoon on Friday October 26 at 8:00pm and 12:00am EST.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I wonder if Black Lagoon will be uncensored.

This is awesome.

In any case, I remember Pepperidge mentioning it a little while ago, but it's good to hear it as an official announcement. It's going to be fun watching it the second time around dubbed, especially if the dub is considered to be good!

By the way, is this going to only be the first season, or are we getting The Second Barrage as well?

Your math is a little off.

I only had vol 1 one of this i never got around to getting the next 2 volumes. Though yah, r they going to be able to release the second season of Black Lagoon. Still guess this saves me some money.

No, the math's right.

subs = win.

dubs = compromise.

I could continue this, but haven't we been in the fandom long enough to avoid or at least ignore posts that start this annoying debate?

EDIT: (Eh, I'm feeling cranky... sorry.)

In the specific case of Black Lagoon:

Dub >>> Sub

And yes, I think we are all getting a bit sick of the dub vs. sub debates on this board.

That's nice. You want an award for that?

Why don't we just have a specific thread for people to argue about subs versus dubs? Those of us who don't care to be a part of it can then avoid it.

On topic: I must add these to the list of shows I need to Tivo.

Eh, I'm not sure Pepps would want that on his forum.

It's pointless to debate an already settled issue and anyone insisting on generalities is being childish. It's a case by case basis; sometimes subs are better, sometimes the dubs are better and sometimes there's no significant difference.

It all depends upon the show and who's involved as well as the age of the show. Older dub work is often not as good as the modern stuff, but that often has to do with the voicework in general just not being as good; take a listen to Superfriends some time. Nowadays, they actually try to get people who can act to do the voicework.

Hey dubs equal air time and help bring in new fans. Never mind that some of us prefer them. Sure sometimes the sub is far superior (as they get horrible sub voice actors sometimes) but it is all PERSONAL TASTE! Lets leave it at that. Besides could have sworn someone did start a thread on this once...

Anyway back to topic. Requiem from the Darkness isn't too bad (renter through zip) and is a good show to go to for Halloween and I am really looking forward to seeing Black Lagoon (and 009-1, Karau, Mushi-Shi to name a few) but I am going to have to rent BL as my brother canceled Tech TV on me. He dosen't think the Bell package that Tech comes in is worth the money and now that they are showing so much anime I am going to have to figure out how to change his mind. Anyway I wonder what the fate of the BL's second season is going to be now that Geneon's future is in question?

Ocean did say the dub would be finished by them. However, it is unknown if Geneon will give distribution of these episodes will air on G4, however, if the episodes' dubs have been already been completed, I think G4 will air them.

Even if they can't get any more Geneon titles, I hope G4 continues it's anime trend. There's still alot of ADV stuff that they could be airing, but it's possible YTV is planning on using that for their new anime channel. And there's still a few titles like Galaxy Railways that have been shown in America that have yet to air in Canada. I'd be happy if they even showed the old Galaxy Express 999 series.

I wouldn't say that's 'settled' at all. While I don't begrudge folks their right to watch dubs, I certainly don't agree that it's a case-by-case basis. I've never run into a case where the dub track was somehow better than the Japanese track with English subtitles. And sorry, but no, that doesn't make me childish at all; I still watch dubs on TV now and then, rather than mute the TV and pout in the corner. :)

I certainly hope so, too. It's the only reason I subscribe to the channel ... 'Code Monkeys' and 'The IT Crowd' both got tired fast.

It doesn't seem, though, that G4 Tech TV Canada is making much noise about its anime programming. The announcement in July of the Geneon programming was as high-profile as they've gotten, but there's been nary a peep about these two shows' debuts. (The info at www.g4techtv.ca/anime still lists the old details from July.)

Well, it's not like YTV makes a big deal of their anime debuts either, even though their block has obviously been extremely successful for them. I mean, Death Note is the type of premiere that should warrant special highlight mentions in TV listing publications, perhaps even sending screener discs out to reviewers to spread wind of the series. Yet YTV still has yet to create so much as a Death Note info page on their website. Or even update the woefully underfunded Bionix homepage.

Does anyone in Canada air ADV titles? You would think that would be a great one for one of the networks to pick up as they have so many great titles.

And considering the way YTV tends to advertise, this might not be a bad thing. After all, do we really want to see them doing a joke on "How To Care For Your Shinigami?" "Be sure to feed it plenty of apples."

Should if not read "and the much-awaited (and very awesomely dubbed!) Black Lagoon on Friday October 26 at 8:00pm and 12:00am EST."

You said September instead of October, just pointing it out.

Don't get me started on YTV's advertisements for anime. I saw an absolutely horrific Eureka seveN commercial a few weeks ago involving the scenes in the soccer episode where Norb farts. Yeah, way to humiliate the anime. It didn't even really showcase any of the action or characters, I don't think it even really showed Eureka or Renton. How does YTV expect to get anime more viewers with commercials like that?

I gave up on trying to figure out YTV's reasoning behind there commercials.
