YTV schedule thread

Just a few days before the start of the new year I’m now going to show you all what changes to expect in the new year for Bionix and the changes that are to show up in YTV's schedule.
=Monday to Thursdays=
YTV’s relgating their Cancon to the late night shift again, mainly due to the major amount of (Nickelodeon) sitcoms on The Zone; basically The Zone lineup is the same one that is used on Fridays upto 5:00PM.
Anyways here’s the Monday-Thursday schedule from 9:00PM-12:00AM come Jan. 7th:
09:00PM: Futurama
09:30PM: Shadow Raiders
10:00PM: Falcon Beach
11:00PM: Mystery Hunters
11:30PM: Ghost Trackers
Sources: Canada.com and YTV.com’s More Show Times listings
With the exception of the Nick shows, old sitcoms, and Futurama, all shows are Cancon from 7:30PM upto 12:00AM. This means YTV’s dropping the reruns for both Pinky And The Brain(I can't say for the Saturday night ones[More Show Times doesn't like the "&" in the name] but in all probability they’re going to go off as well) and Naruto. I enjoyed the brief return of anime reruns on YTV while it lasted, and hoped it would last longer, but I guess this is the way it has to be.

=Bionix=
Despite the littering of Nickelodeon shows to The Zone and all that, Bionix is miraciously(more or less) coming out intact to an extent. That being said, there are some changes: Gundam SEED Destiny has been swapped with Bleach, and GSD's encore has been dropped...in exchange for the Eureka seveN rerun. So that means the E7 rerun has been relegated to 2:30AM. Just thank God the Cancon quotient doesn't comprise of Monster Warriors(or Zixx) again.
08:00PM: Naruto
08:30PM: Avatar
09:00PM: Futurama
09:30PM: Bleach
10:00PM: Death Note
10:30PM: Gundam SEED Destiny
11:00PM: Shadow Raiders
11:30PM: Storm Hawks
12:00AM: Futurama encore
12:30AM: Invader ZIM rerun
01:00AM: Full Metal Alchemist rerun
01:30AM: Death Note encore
02:00AM: Bleach encore
02:30AM: Eureka seveN rerun(very back end...ouch!)
Source: YTV.com’s More Show Times listings for the shows listed for the date of January 11th 2008.

It's Superman Returns alright, they mentioned it in their Sales Reel for 2008, guess what they didn't mention by name in it? One hint, it starts with a "B" and was recently shafted to Saturday nights. Must be getting piss poor ratings for them to not try to get advertising money, although it doesn't help that Bionix's ads are pretty much diaper and car commercials. Really taping the market there...

And ugh, those stupid thumbs are back again this October on Saturdays, at 12PM though, so maybe the schedule wont be too mangled.

Sales Reel can be seen here:

The Next Star's finale pulled in like half a million viewers last night. YTV seems happy. I seem depressed. This thing airs like everyday on YTV, so why did Bionix have to get shafted? Why not make it "Saturday Slumber Partys!" or something?

I am not to pissed that they moved it to Saturdays. I just wish that it didn't look like they are giving up on anime. I mean look at the titles. Considering Naruto is in fillers the only thing worth watching (for my tastes) is X-men and Bleach (which is in a filler soon right?). It's so depressing compared to last year.

Last year the TV Talkback section of this forum actually had people talking about the shows. There just isn't anything much to talk about this year. Naruto is all fillers, Bleach is behind the US and way behind Japan, Zatch could disappear at any time and nobody really cares much for Blue Dragon.

One Piece has been so mishandled that nobody wants to bother with it anymore. YTV had One Piece but cancelled it and I don't see them currently taking any interest in picking it back up. And even the fans have forgot it and moved on.

Unless YTV gets it's anime channel going and decides to air it there (since it would be long enough for a daily run), there's little chance that it will ever air on TV again. It's doubtful that any new R1 DVDs will come out either. About the only choice right now is the fansubs.

Unfinished series are common for anime dubs. There's still a season of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX that will likely never be shown. (Which is just as well.)

What are you basing this on? One Piece has been selling pretty well for FUNi, not great, but well. Besides, there's even a trailer for the third set on the recent DVD.

Because R2s and Viz's Manga [really slow]Release don't exist for One Piece?

And if Media Blasters got very close to getting Gao Gai Gar on Toon Disney, I'm sure Luffy and the pirate crews will be back of TV. Toei are ignorant, and always have been (You know them pulling shows back to Japan, telling 4Kids to do unecessary things to One Piece, etc.), but this ignorant always went hand in hand with perserverance.

And there is a very strong rumor that Season 4 of GX will be on TV once 5Ds is out of season. Currently 4Kids has been spread a bit too thin at this point I suppouse.

I am pretty sure is was 4kids that decided what they were going to cut in One Piece them they told Toei that it was for the success of the show in the US then Toei would say sure if you think that that is the best thing to do.
I think the list of thing to do with the show that you are thinking about was the one that they gave to FUNimation.
But who cares anyways, we have uncut DVDs now.

Wow showing 5Ds before finishing the airing of GX is really dumb. But it is 4kids after all.
If the last season of GX is finnished, it will probably be shown on YTV probably(I wonder if it is on reruns or airing new episodes)

Toei forced Loguetown and Zolo upon us. No reason not to believe they did more.

And for the record, the first season of GX was airing before the last season of Yu-Gi-Oh! aired, and guess what happened there? People suspected the same thing that's happening now.

I don't expect Gintama will get licensed. It's up to something like 125 episodes already. They may feel the humour wouldn't translate.

I caught a CRTC notice for YTV that aired during Bionix last night (just before the end credits of Blue Dragon). It seems YTV wants to change it's licence. It wants to:
"...amend certain conditions of licence, in particular deletion of the specified percentages of programming targeted to children, youth and thier families, deletion of the scheduling restriction around feature films, and a reduction to the requirement of Non-North American programming."

The details are listed under the "Public Proceedings" section of the CRTC site, but the site appears to be down right now.

This is interesting, especially the part about "Non-North American programming." Since US content would be North American, could this mean that YTV wants to air more anime? This is particluarly surprising after they slashed Bionix. (Maybe the cut had more to do with CanCon than anything else.) It may also be that they can't air some of the US anime shows because of the CanCon restrictions.

It also appears they want to air more films, but the pecentages of programming is confusing.

They want to reduce their requirement to air non-North American programming. If anything that would mean less anime and more American shows. I know what kind of changes they want in their next license renewal, and I can't say I'm going to be voicing support for a lot of them.

But on the bright side, the Bionix bumpers seem to be finally back up again after almost a year. So at least we know the block isn't on total autorun.

Then why would they air the message during a block dedicated to non-North American programming? Seems kind of like a slap in the face to me.

I remember ads for The Next Star airing durring Bionix hours. If that isn't a slap in the face then...

"...amend certain conditions of licence, in particular deletion of the specified percentages of programming targeted to children, youth and thier families"

This seems odd to me, since they should currently have no problem meeting whatever percentage is set for them. What, are they planning to run more programming geared towards adults, to become a more mainsteam channel overall, or are these more specific percentages, like the number of hours they are required to run preschool programming?

"deletion of the scheduling restriction around feature films"

YTV manages to show enough movies already. The last thing we need is for YTV to turn into yet another lazy channel that shows nothing but edited-for-TV, loaded-with-commercial-breaks movies. If YTV wants to launch a youth-oriented movie channel, fine, but I'm a firm believer that, aside from the channels specifically devoted otherwise, TV channels should only run TV shows. (While I'm not a particular fan of westerns, what Global did to Lonestar makes me kind of sick.)

"and a reduction to the requirement of Non-North American programming"

Goodbye YTV bringing us unique programming like My Family or Rex the Runt or anime, hello more crappy US sitcom reruns.

I'm not impressed. But I'm not surprised, as I haven't been impressed with YTV in quite some time.

A lot of the announcement that I caught seemed (to me) to go along with creating the possible anime network they want. Since YTV would be the primary controller (or sole), they would still be bound by the original agreements for the standard YTV fare. This would be a good way around it.

So, uh, according to Zap2it, YTV's scheduled to air the Bleach movie, Memories of Nobody, on November 8 at 9:00am. Now, does anyone else see something wrong with this picture? O_o

Wait... 9:00AM ??? Bleach is way too mature to air on a saturday morning ... Must be some kind of scheduling error.

Yeah that time does seem a bit off. I'd say it's probably suppose to be 9:00 pm.

It is possibly a scheduling error, since 9pm would mean it's taking over the Bionix slot. That would make a lot more sense. Of course it also means no Naruto or Zatch for that week.

Then it would be 8pm. As long as it prempts Bionix they would be happy. But Zap2it still has it as 9am. Maybe they're playing with the idea of moving Bionix to Saturday morning. Then they could throw shows into the block such as Kirby.

YTV's More Show Times java has listed that Naruto and Blue Dragon will be aired at 8:00PM on November 8th, and that Zatch Bell and Bleach will be pre-empted for a movie which runs until 11:00PM - in all probability it'll be Bleach: Memories Of Nobody. Also, the four Saturday morning shows which air from the 9AM-11AM slot are still airing. In cases such as this - when the Zap2It and Canada.com schedules make a blatant error with listing the Bleach movie at 9AM - the YTV.com schedule should be considered to be the accurate listing.

Has the movie aired on [adult swim] yet? If it hasn't this will be a North American TV premiere(about a month after it's DVD release). Also, I doubt [as] would air it if they already haven't scheduled it, what with their seemingly anti-anime schedule changes.

Source: YTV.com listings for Naruto, Bleach, Zatch Bell, Blue Dragon, Storm Hawks, Dark Oracle, the Saturday morning shows from 9AM-11AM, and "Movie+[YTV]"(note: users will have to replace the "[" and "]" symbols with less-than and greater-than symbols - the forum doesn't like those symbols as they're treated as HTML tags, even if they're in URLs)

Adult Swim has never been big on movies. I think it has a lot to do with the combination of [as] starting so late, and movies being so long. Even if the first half of the movie does well, the second half drops off considerably, and they just end up with less-than-stellar ratings.

The Aqua Teen movie's ratings were surprisingly poor, I don't believe they've ever run the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, and even the Cowboy Bebop movie I think they've only shown once (as well as Metropolis, Escaflowne and The Animatrix). They do still run the InuYasha movies, usually on really dead nights like Christmas Eve.

All that combined with, as you said, [as]'s recent estrangement with anime in general makes me think that they're just not interested in acquiring the Bleach movie.

Score one for YTV... for now.

There's a second Bleach movie coming out, or has at least come out in Japan, which is likely why the first one is appearing. Expect to see ads for it, even though YTV is so far behind in the story that the second movie would spoil a lot and raise some questions.

That kind of sums up the entire year of Anime On TV in Canada for 2008. Lackluster. Corus got our hopes up with a dual Bionix in Summer 2007, and another Animania, but rather then continuing this productive trend, Corus went into reverse nearly demolishing everything that was started in 2004.

Any clue what happened to Avatar? It just disappeared off the schedule after they aired the series finale. What, no reruns?
