G4TechTV airing Black Lagoon second season

Can't believe I missed this! Apparently G4TechTV Canada has begun airing the much sought after second season of Black Lagoon tonight! This is very exciting news mainly because while the entire season has been dubbed, Geneon never got around to releasing it on DVD. Right now, G4TechTV is the only exhibition we're going to get for these dubbed episodes for the forseeable future. It's currently airing Friday nights at 8:30pm EST/5:30pm PST with repeats at 11:30pm EST/8:30pm PST.

However, as enthusiastic as they are towards anime, TechTV has unfortunately had to reduce their Anime Current block to one slot a week. This may be the last hurrah for anime on the station for the forseeable future, so be sure not to miss it!

Also of note, G4TechTV Canada will be airing series 2 of The IT Crowd starting this week! In case you haven't noticed yet, this station is very good! Now if only they had more original content.

Aww, shit. -_- I thought it was going to be a repeat today.

Many thanks for the heads up, Pepperidge.

I know this is blunt, but... did anyone cap this episode? Hopefully someone will be on the ball next week...

I was surprised to see them air it. I didn't think they would air season 2. And when you consider the content of this episode, it's a little more surprising. Then again, this never was a show for YTV.

It's likely that someone will pick up the DVD rights for this show, including second season. It's simply a matter of repackaging.

Are we sure there'll be no anime replacing 'Last Exile' on Sundays? Its final episode was just last week ....

Damn I don't have my PVR anymore, but it was an awesome episode anyway!

The dub continues to impress me, those children are really freaky...and was casted very well! No censors or mutes in this episode thankfully XD

I think its kind of interesting that G4techtv moved Black Lagoon to 8:30pm ..the same time that Avatar airs on YTV, but interestingly enough YTV has restarted Avatar so if I've done my math correctly...when Black Lagoon ends, new Avatar episodes begin!!

If nobody had told me that this was Second Barrage, I wouldn't have noticed anything, especially since the OP and ED are the same, and they keep the episode numbers the same (ep. 13).

I would hope we won't have to wait quite that long for new 'Avatar' episodes, though!

Thankfully, 'Black Lagoon' gets a late-night repeat and YTV has two feeds, so even if they air new episodes on the same night, it's easy to catch both.

I'm sorry when I noticed it it was already 11:52pm, and shortly thereafter I posted here right away. Seems absolutely no one expected this. I wasn't expecting it, but I had my PVR previously set to record G4 from 6pm-9pm (I would regularly capture The Lab, Attack of the Show, and the Anime of the night plus whatever sometimes good show was on at 8:30pm, and I was shocked to see they were playing the new episode. Unfortunately I do not think I can post a capture online. However, anyone who missed it should consider catching the missing episode (elsewhere), and don't miss it next week!

So why have they reduced Anime Current to just once a week? Low ratings? Cancon purge? Or is it just fallout from Geneon's collapse?

Also, I just noticed the other day that the only shows G4TechTV is importing from G4 in the US anymore are Attack of the Show and X-Play. They can't be doing too badly on original programming.

It's most likely the Geneon problem. They must have liscened both seasons of Black Lagoon at the same time.

By the way, does anyone know why G4 only airs each anime series once and only once? I wonder why these slots couldn't at least be used for some reruns, particularly now that it's been a while since, for example, Read or Die and Lupin the 3rd aired ....

Perhaps the ratings on new shows are higher than for reruns, even popular ones, and perhaps the plan was to show alot of shows before going into reruns to try and keep things 'fresh'.

However, whether G4 still has the rights to air said shows are the question. Unless they got rerun rights way back when licensed them from Geneon, they'd have to renegotiate to air them again, right?

It's too bad G4TechTV sucks so hard even Black Lagoon isn't enough to make me watch it let alone shell out however much to subscribe to it. How many different shows do they air? Like 5-6? Attack of the Show is on about 15 times a day! I checked it out over Xmas and was shocked at how crappy it was.

I agree G4 "sucks" in comparison to the variety offered by many mainstream channels, but ... it's not a mainstream channel and what it does offer is exclusive to it (i.e. no redundant airing of what we can already see on other Canadian channels), so I find it relatively easy to justify subscribing as long as they have a few shows I'll watch.

That may change soon, of course, but for now I'll stick with it if only for 'Black Lagoon.'

Well... if it helps our G4 is like 1000 times better than the American G4.

Honestly, G4 is only good for covering main events...like CES, and E3.

ROTR and Elec. Play are always great, Xplay changed its style and its content, I like it! Aots is well...aots.

Lab with Leo, I really don't get how anyone would watch a show with a guy answering tech related calls @__@...no entertainment value whatsoever.
And there the IT Croud.

That's all the shows that come to mind when I think of g4 lol

Lab with Leo increases one's knowledge, not one's entertainment intake. Plenty of people want to know more about their computers, or just glean in general knowledge. That's one of the appeals behind channels like 'Discovery Channel'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Geneon is gone now, right (haven't been keeping up)? If so, what are the chances, if any, of TechTV getting in more anime?

Maybe they'll air Raxephon or Daphne in the Brilliant Blue?

G4 was alot better when it was TechTV. They still had shows like X-play, anime and Cheat but they also had those other shows like the Screen Savers (what AOTS was) which where entertaining and you could learn something at the same time.

Put it simply when it was TechTV it was like have reading MaximumPC every day (didn't have anime in Canada yet then) and now it's like a crappy version of FHM with some anime added in to make it worth watching.

If they're going to have more anime then they're going to need to find a new distributor. It's a matter of how long it takes to find one that will determine when they get more anime. I wouldn't expect anything before next fall, summer at least.

I hope that won't be the case either, but I wouldn't be surprised if we do have to wait that long. Avatar's last two seasons had YTV going into repeats after Episode 10 before continuing with Episodes 11-20. In fact, I was surprised that YTV even aired Episodes 11-13. =\

I forgot to mention this in my last post, but I'm glad that we're finally going to see Season 2 of The IT Crowd. I can't wait to see the Anti-Piracy Ad on my TV. XD

And speaking of Daphne, what the heck happened to that? I thought that G4TechTV was going to air it, seeing as it was listed in an ad for the channel in the Anime North '07 program/book. The same could also be said of Hellsing Ultimate as well. (If I remember correctly, Pepperidge mentioned in a post that they have it.)

Maybe after Black Lagoon has ended? and isn't Ultimate Hellsing like 50 minutes each eps?

Perhaps. I would think that Hellsing Ultimate would need a one-hour timeslot to air an episode. Conceivably, Daphne could air afterwards as well, assuming that they still have it.

And yes, each episode is around 40-48 minutes long.

They still haven't started airing those new IT Crowd episodes yet. I thought for sure that they would start as soon as their current run of Series 1 was over, but episode 1 came on again tonight.

Keep us posted if you hear anything about that, Pepperidge!
